Jazz Ensemble Awards
The Thomas E. Debray/EARLYJAS Jazz Scholarship
KSU School of Music Jazz Scholarship
Kent State Jazz Ensembles are very pleased to announce the implementation of an endowed scholarship for Jazz Ensemble.
The Thomas E. Debray/EARLYJAS Jazz Scholarship is made possible by a donation from the EARLYJAS society of Kent Ohio, combined with monies given by friends of Walter Watson on behalf of KSU Jazz Ensembles.
EARLYJAS is a Kent organization dedicated to the performance and preservation of traditional Jazz. The board of directors for EARLYJAS contacted Chas Baker and offered to donate scholarship funds for jazz students. This endowment is the result.
Thomas E. Debray, an avid Jazz fan and EARLYJAS member, passed away in 1998.
Walter Watson is former Director of the Hugh A. Glauser School Of Music and former director of Jazz Studies.
The scholarship will be used to attract talented young jazz musicians to The Glauser School of Music and KSU Jazz Ensembles.
We welcome donations to help the fund grow. Checks can be made out to: Kent State University Foundation Endowment Acct.#:32031 (Thomas E. Debray/EARLYJAS Scholarship)
The Debray/EARLYJAS Scholarship winner for 2005-2006 is Jimmy Redmond, trombone.
